THE EXPERIENCE

 

Niasha Williams is a New York City-based fashion designer whose work is highly inspired by a multitude or Nigerian textiles. The name of her clothing line is NORÁ which means a new start and new beginnings. The word comes from the story of Noah in the Bible and how after the flood there are new beauties awaiting. This name choice comes from her amazing testimony that shows her struggles in life and how God helped her come out of it all and have a fresh new start. Naisha recently had her first pop-up shop and I had the opportunity to walk in and admire some of her works.

I am a close friend of Niasha's, but trust me when I say I was more than impressed with her work. She is an amazing designer and you won't disappoint.  I love that although she is African-American her clothing designs incorporate African textiles. This helps bridge the gap between two very similar cultures that have been separated for so long. For that reason, I personally can't wait to see what's next for her. It was truly an amazing experience and I will be popping up at pop-up shops more.
