Brooklyn Botanical Garden (Date With Grandma)
THE EXPERIENCE
When I was a high school student attending The Brooklyn Academy of Science and The Environment, I used to visit Brooklyn Botanic Garden all the time. So, it felt a little nostalgic revisiting my old stomping grounds. While rereading this, I can't believe I wrote "old stomping grounds". It makes me feel so old but, I digress. Going back made me realize how amazing nature is and how much something as simple as visiting a garden has shaped my way of thinking. My love for both botany and the natural wonders of the world stems from a multitude of experiences; one being the time I spent in high school. This garden is truly a place that connects people to the world of plants, fostering delight and curiosity while inspiring an appreciation and sense of stewardship of the environment. If you are ever in Brooklyn, New York you must go check out this beautiful garden.
Fortunately, I was able to capture a photo of a carpenter bee pollinating this flower. Right now, this may not seem like much of a big deal but, for some flowers in April it will all make sense. Around this time these small flying insects get to showcase all their hard work and dedication. One example of their masterpieces can be seen at the Garden's annual Japanese celebration, "Sakura Matsuri" which showcases the cherry blossom. These flowers tend to bloom around late April, so if you are ever in the area you must visit the festival. If you can not go in April then feel free to visit the Cranford Rose Garden within the Brooklyn Botanical Garden which showcases their roses for the majority of the summer.

I wish I was able to see the whole Garden in one day but, that would be impossible according to our tour guide. Overall, the tour was extremely fun and organized due to our tour guide who was very knowledgeable about the Garden. If you are someone that enjoys plants and would like to learn more about them, you shold definitely book a tour at the garden. Also, if you are a student looking to have a career in botany or environmental science sign up to be a tour guide.
